THE BREAKDOWN
Your take-home (in-hand) is your gross cash salary minus the deductions your employer withholds at source. Knowing each one helps you understand why your bank credit differs from the number quoted in your offer letter.
WHY IT VARIES
The same CTC can produce different take-home depending on your tax regime, your state’s professional tax, your PF setup, and whether variable pay is guaranteed. The calculator shows the assumptions it used so you can adjust them for your own situation.

Take-home salary (also called in-hand or net salary) is the amount credited to your bank account every month after deductions such as income tax, employee PF and professional tax.
CTC includes employer contributions (employer PF, gratuity) that you never receive as cash, and your take-home is your gross salary minus employee deductions. So take-home is typically 15–25% below the simple CTC ÷ 12 figure.
Variable pay is part of gross salary and is included if it is assumed fully payable. But variable/bonus pay is not guaranteed, so the calculator lets you see the difference between guaranteed and performance-linked pay.
