₹5 Lakh CTC In-Hand Salary

At ₹5 lakh CTC, most of your package still reaches your bank account. Under the FY 2026-27 new regime, the ₹75,000 standard deduction usually keeps taxable income at or below the ₹4 lakh tax-free threshold, so income tax is typically zero for a standard structure. Your in-hand is therefore mostly gross salary minus employee PF and professional tax.

This estimate uses the site's default setup — estimated structure, new regime, Karnataka — and lists every deduction so you can compare it against your actual payslip. Switching to the old regime or another state in the calculator changes only the tax or professional-tax line.

As with every level, employer PF and gratuity are counted in your CTC but not paid as monthly cash, which is why your take-home is below the simple CTC ÷ 12 figure.

What counts as in-hand at 5 LPA?

At a ₹5 Lakh CTC CTC (₹5,00,000 a year), the in-hand figure depends on what part of the package is cash and what is employer contribution or non-cash benefit. Under the estimated structure used here, employer PF and gratuity are part of CTC but are not paid to you as salary, while employee PF, professional tax and income tax are deducted from your cash pay. That is why your monthly in-hand is lower than the simple CTC ÷ 12 figure.

Your actual breakup may differ if your basic-to-HRA mix, PF basis or tax regime is different. The calculator shows every deduction and its assumptions so you can compare offers or budget for your take-home pay.

REGIME CHOICE

New vs old tax regime at this CTC

Whether you file under the new or old regime changes both your income tax and your in-hand. Using the same estimated structure and Karnataka, the figures for a ₹5,00,000 CTC compare as follows.

ItemNew regimeOld regime
Monthly in-hand₹37,114₹37,114
Annual income tax₹0₹0
Annual in-hand₹4,45,373₹4,45,373

The old-regime estimate only applies the standard ₹50,000 deduction plus employee PF (Section 80C). If you claim other deductions such as HRA, 80C investments or a home-loan interest, your old-regime tax would be lower than shown here — use the calculator with your actual claims.

BY LOCATION

How your state changes professional tax and in-hand

Professional tax is a small state levy deducted from your salary each month. Moving between the states below changes this deduction (and therefore your in-hand) by a modest amount — these are the annual figures and the resulting monthly in-hand for a ₹5,00,000 CTC under the new regime.

StateAnnual professional taxMonthly in-hand (new regime)
Karnataka₹2,400₹37,114
Maharashtra₹2,500₹37,106
Tamil Nadu₹2,500₹37,106
West Bengal₹2,400₹37,114
Telangana₹2,400₹37,114
Delhi₹0₹37,314

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much is ₹5 LPA in-hand per month?

Under the new regime with the default estimated structure (employee PF and Karnataka professional tax deducted, income tax ≈ ₹0), a ₹5 LPA CTC works out to the monthly figure shown in the breakdown above. Your result varies with your salary structure, tax declarations and PF setup.

Do I pay income tax at ₹5 LPA?

Usually very little or none under the new regime: after the ₹75,000 standard deduction, taxable income stays at or just below the ₹4 lakh threshold, so the Section 87A rebate typically wipes out the tax.

What is deducted from a ₹5 LPA salary?

Typical deductions are employee PF (12% of basic) and, where applicable, state professional tax. Income tax is usually nil at this level under the new regime for a standard structure, so your take-home percentage is high.

Which tax regime is better at ₹5 LPA?

For most people at ₹5 LPA the new regime is the simpler choice because its lower slabs and ₹75,000 standard deduction keep taxable income below the tax-free threshold. The old regime can win only if you claim large deductions under sections like 80C, so it is worth comparing with the calculator.

METHODOLOGY & SOURCES

How these estimates are calculated

Every figure on this page is computed for a ₹5,00,000 CTC using the site's salary engine, which applies the FY 2026-27 rules with these explicit assumptions: the new tax regime, the ₹75,000 standard deduction, an estimated salary structure (basic ≈ 40% of fixed pay), employee and employer PF at 12% of basic, no PF wage cap, and Karnataka professional tax of ₹2,400 a year. Each deduction is shown as a separate line so you can verify the arithmetic yourself.

The rules reflect the official sources below and are re-verified each financial year: the Income Tax Department (incometax.gov.in) for tax slabs, standard deduction and Section 87A rebate, and theEmployees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) for the 12% PF contribution rates. Figures are estimates for planning and comparison — your employer’s actual salary structure, benefits and tax declarations determine your real payslip.
